Welcome to Voices online magazine!
My name is Sydney Lauer, I use she/her/hers pronouns, and I am the new Editor-in-Chief of Voices.
I was originally introduced to Voices as a shy freshman submitting a poem written in my Form in Poetry class with Prof. Kanost. I was excited to see my poem’s title pop up on the home screen on the E-zine, and later sent a picture to my whole family to share my excitement.
Now, nearly a year and a half later, I am writing to you as the new Editor-in-Chief. Since then I have had many English classes and plan to take many more Creative Writing classes, perhaps with many of you fellow readers and writers, and I’ve seen the inner workings of Voices by working with our previous Editor-in-Chief, Jill.
Voices is a place of connection in a time where fostering a sense of community is more important than over. Founded in 2019 by and for students in the English and Creative Writing community, this online magazine was created to feature work of all kinds: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and visual arts.
This is a safe space for us to share our voices and create with one another. In addition to featuring the work of our peers, Voices is a platform where students can share their thoughts and ideas.
Through Kudos we congratulate fellow students and alumni on their outstanding work and accomplishments. In Chatter we share some funny messages and insights picked up throughout the day. Creative is a place to showcase and submit your work, and is a wonderful way to keep updated on what your fellow students are working on! Announcements is where the Department shares any publishing, internship, or on-campus opportunities. Keep checking our Events page throughout the year to keep updated on any upcoming events, or even look back on past functions!
I hope you love and enjoy Voices as much as I do. If you ever have any questions, please reach out to me at slauer914@g.rwu.edu
Your book enthusiast and closet-author,
