This week we are honored to spotlight Matthew J. Milotkais (he/him/his)!
Matthew is an English Literature and Cultural Studies major at RWU, and during their freshman year he received the Outstanding First Year English Major Award! This award is given to students who show significant promise as new English Majors; this can be in terms of writing ability, analysis, and more. Matthew was kind enough to give us an insight into what his hopes are as a sophomore going into their junior year and what they think is the best thing about being an English major. Below is his response:
“My hopes are that I continue to learn to write as much as I have here. I have also learned a lot about editing through my CW.450 Publishing class and hope to continue that as I want to own a publishing company one day. I would like to get an internship as well and will continue to look into available internships, and hope that I can get one at a publishing company. The best thing about being an English Major is being able to write about anything in terms of analysis. I love being able to write about certain patterns I see in texts and turn that into a final project/research paper. I love content analysis and comparison essays, and I’ve really honed in on that love through my major. There are also a bunch of literary lenses that I have learned about through my English major and I use those lenses in almost every other one of my classes. Everything I have learned thus far has allowed me to thrive in my environment, and that is because I am an English Major. The English Literature and Creative Writing Department also have wonderful professors who are extremely caring, nurturing, and thoughtful. My professors have taught me something new and have such bright personalities that it motivates me to do anything. I also work in the department and it has provided me with so much space to grow and learn. I love those who I work with, and I’m so happy to continue in the department as years go by.”
We cannot be prouder of Matthew’s hard work and dedication! We wish him the best in his future endeavors!
