For today’s Creative post, we are taking a trip to London! Sophia Thomas, one of our Department interns and senior editor of Voices, is studying abroad in England this semester, so we thought it would be a fun idea for her to share some highlights from the trip.

Kicking it off, we have some photos of William Shakespeare’s famous theatre in London: The Globe.

Built in 1599 and rebuilt in 1614 due to a fire, this theatre was associated with Shakespeare himself and has been featuring Shakespeare’s productions for years.

Above are photos from the productions Macbeth and As You Like It (labels are placed under each photo). The Globe is one of the oldest theatres to date. You can especially tell because of the audience seats, which aren’t exactly what you’d expect for a theatre. They are simply benches with no backs!

Some other fun facts about this theatre is that they have hand washing stations featuring Lady Macbeth’s famous “Out, Damned Spot” quote! (See the first image above) And during the intermission of As You Like It, the cast and crew gave away free apples to hungry audience members! They were delicious!

There will be further content to come from this exciting London trip throughout the semester, so be sure to check back for more!
