Bermont Fellowship

Applications for the twelfth annual Master Class for the Bermont Fellowship in Nonfiction are now officially open, and will take place on April 7-8, 2024.

The Bermont Fellowship, endowed by an RWU alumnus, gives fellows the opportunity to attend an intensive seminar or master class with a distinguished gesture writer. This year’s Distinguished Visiting Writer is Philip Lopate. Philip has been a central figure in the recent reveal of interest in memoir writing and the personal essay. Apart from being the author of 16 books, his 2014 collection Portrait Inside My Head was reviewed by The New York Times.

The fellowship is offered to a select group of full-time undergraduate students at Roger Williams University, who can come from any discipline or major, and is a great opportunity with unique and valuable writing experience to support their professional development. The students will be chosen in a blind submission and selected based on the merits of their submitted work.

Applying to this fellowship will close on Friday, December 1st, 2023, so make sure to apply soon! Anyone interested can apply using this form here. Please submit your entries electronically to Cynthia Jones at cjones@rwu.edu. Best of luck to all who apply!
